Level 1 Airtightness Testing

Train to become a Level 1 Airtightness Tester with Elmhurst’s course for new entrants – practical exercises included for both Pulse and Blower Door method.

Air Tightness Testers who attend this course will acquire the skills and knowledge to deliver thermal imaging heat loss inspections for domestic properties and commercial buildings.

Airtightness testing levels

Level 1

  1. Training and Assessment: Candidates must attend a training course at an approved centre and pass the exams, practical assessments and subsequent review of 3 unpaid tests in order to apply to EAS. The Level 1 certificate will be required to join the scheme. If you already have your certificate from the training please apply here. To find out more about training courses please click here.
  2. APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning): Candidates who have industry experience must submit test reports and associated envelope area calculations to demonstrate that the National Occupational Standards for air tightness testing have been met. If successful, candidates will then have a site audit including questioning to ensure competence. Please contact us to discuss this route of entry.

Level 2

  1. Training and Assessment: Level 1 air tightness testers must attend a training course at an approved centre (IRT Training), and pass the assessments in order to apply to EAS.
